Various souvenirs (e.g. copper candlesticks and vases) that were bought in town or at a fair also contributed to the fresh look of the rooms. Various textile items woven by the womenfolk helped to make the living conditions a lot cosier. While previously bright blankets had been the only patches of colour around the house, at the end of the 19th century there were also sheets with lace ornaments, bedspreads and pillow-cases, and rag rugs; curtains were hung at the windows and lacy tablecloths were placed on top of chests of drawers and tables.
