Peasant chairs
Source: Estonian National Museum
The design of the chairs reaching the peasant dwellings in mid-19th century, was highly diverse. They included those influenced by the furniture used at that time in towns and manor houses. Such examples, however, were not used in their genuine form; the forms were thoroughly redesigned according to local circumstances and the rational traditions of folk art. The greatest attention was paid to the back of the chair, which was decorated in various ways and techniques.
