Wedding party in a Livonian farm
Source: Estonian History Museum
In the 17th and 18th centuries certain rules were established that governed the way peasants could celebrate their weddings: the duration of a wedding party was limited to two to three days (parties used to last for a week or even longer). The number of guests, the amount of food and drink, and the nature and the amount of presents were also restricted. Traditional weddings usually consisted of two parts: one part was held at the bride's home and the other at the groom's.
