Usually there were a couple of months between the proposal and the wedding — the bride spent that time preparing presents for the groom's relatives and other people who were actively participating in the wedding-party. The presents consisted mostly of small bundles, tied together with garters, containing gloves, stockings, socks, belts, also a shirt for closer relatives. A girl usually started making such presents at an early age. Traditionally the girls from the same village would come on Thursday and Sunday evenings to help the bride with her needlework.
