The flagship of British Admiral Kelly in Tallinn harbour. The Royal Navy had taken part in the Estonian War of Independence from the end of 1918, and was a considerable help in securing victory for the Estonian People’s Army. The extensive British assistance was not, however, totally selfless — it was also an attempt to keep Estonia in an anti-Bolshevist coalition, which in the end did not succeed; the separate peace treaty of the Republic of Estonia with the Soviet Union caused much dissatisfaction in Western countries.
