The dunes at Lake Peipsi dunes were formed as a result of the accumulating sediments of the lake during the post-Ice Age period. Lake Peipsi emerged when continental ice receded from the southern part of the lake basin northwards, acquiring today’s shape about 5000–7000 years ago.
