The wetlands of the West Estonian coastal lowland are significant breeding places for birds. Coasts and islets act as stopovers for migratory waterfowl: during their spring and autumn migration, the larger part of the waterfowl nesting in Arctic tundras flies along the Baltic Sea shores, preferring its Southern coast.
